Connecting wetland centres across the world

Q: What is a wetland centre?

A: Any wetland where there are facilities for people to learn about and get to know wetlands.  This can be through a building, active group of volunteers, or where staff regularly run activities.

Q: What is Ramsar and CEPA?

A: Ramsar is the international convention on wetlands, and CEPA is their Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness programme, to get people involved in wetlands.

Q: Do you have to be an NGO to join WLI?

A: No!  Many of our members are NGOs, but we also welcome centres run by local government, or privately run centres.  However, we only accept members that are accessible to the public, not privately run organisations with no engagement activities.

The WLI network is endorsed by the Ramsar Convention on wetlands and coordinated by WWT.
