WLI Update February 2013

New Partners

Brazilian partner Onda Verde; Norwegian Ostensjovennet; APREC, Brazil; Visitor centre of Abrolhos Marine Park, Brazil; and Ilsan Lake, South Korea.

WLI Russia

We continue to work with Wetlands International Russia and other Russian partners to develop the wetland centre network in Russia.  The Baltic Fund for Nature are leading on a workshop from the 9th - 11th of May in St Petersburg (Kerulia region), whilst WI Russia will hold a wetland conference in Moscow, on the 14th - 15th of May.  More details will be provided soon.

World Wetlands Day 2013

This year, the theme of Ramsar’s World Wetlands Day was ‘Wetlands look after water’, and WLI members carried out lots of activities, ranging from walks and talks, to writing poetry, art competitions and beach clean ups.  To find out more, take a look at our World Wetlands Day 2013 page – and if you have any stories of your own, it’s not too late to send them to us and we will add them.

WLI Asia

Not long to go now until the WLI Asia conference takes place, from the 19th to the 22nd of April in Sucheon, South Korea.  For more information, please take a look at the conference layout and invitation letter here.  There is some funding available to support travel and accommodation, please send in your application to Mr Zi, Tzan-hyuk, explaining what funds you need and why it is important for you to be there.  We hope to see you there!

Request for resources

If you are running activities for students of primary school age which involve field trips to wetland sites, we would welcome your materials – whether it’s a health and safety check, pond-dipping guide, or fun games to play, send your digital copies to the WLI manager and we will add them to our website.

Ramsar CEPA Oversight Panel

WLI has been officially invited to be part of Ramsar’s CEPA oversight panel, which is exciting news.  The head of WLI will be attending the Panel’s next

meeting in Switzerland in early April, and we’ll keep you posted on the outcome.

WLI bulletin

We will be producing the next 6-monthly WLI bulletin for the end of March – if you have stories from your centre, we are looking for between 350 and 500 words on a story, with some picture to illustrate it.  Please send them to us at wli@wwt.org.uk before the 15th of March.
