Connecting wetland centres across the world

WWF Hong Kong Big Bird Race event

The Big Bird Race (BBR), is WWF Hong Kong’s longest-running flagship event and has been raising funds for conservation since 1984. These funds directly contribute to the conservation work at Mai Po Nature Reserve.

The Big Bird Race had successfully invited birdwatching teams from Taiwan and Korea to join this year’s race. 11 local and overseas participating teams successfully completed a 12-hour bird-spotting challenge around the Hong Kong territory on 2nd February 2013.

Sparrows, recording 162 species of bird, won the ‘Most Birds Seen’ Award. The ‘Most Wetland Birds Seen’ Award went to the Professionals, with 70 wetland bird species spotted. Pied Harrier, spotted by E.E.I Korea during the race, made the team win the Bird of the Day. All Stars raised HK$91,500, won the Highest Fundraising Team Award.

Through the fundraising efforts of all teams and sponsors, over HK$1 million monetary sponsorship and donation was raised and will be used for our management and conservation work in Mai Po Nature Reserve. More information could be found at www.wwf.org.hk/en/getinvolved/bbr/
