  • Managing protected area of regional importance – Natural Ornithological Park in Imeretinskaya Lowland;
  • Providing regime of special protection for the territory, carrying out actions on conservation, reproduction and sustainable use of plant and animal resources ;
  • Carrying out scientific researches;
  • Ecological education.

Description of the centre

Natural Ornithological Park in Imeretinskaya Lowland includes natural complexes and objects of considerable ecological and aesthetic value for conservation, recreational and educational purposes.

It is located in Imeretinskaya Lowland and adjacent Nizhneshilovo rural area of Adler District of Sochi city of Krasnodar Region. Territory of the Natural Park is divided on 14 clusters of 298,59 ha total squire.

Main CEPA work areas

  • Advertizing and publishing production (booklets, brochures, badges, etc.);
  • Thematic exhibitions;
  • Ecological education actions (conferences, celebrations, lectures and trainings) in preschools, boarding and secondary and high schools;
  • Publications in mass-media about Natural Park and its activity.

Top three successes

  1. Annual all-Russian scientific and practical conference “Sustainable Development of Protected Areas”. It was succeeded creating platform for discussions and experience exchange between representatives of state and municipal authorities, federal and regional protected areas, leading Russian scientists concerning landscape and biological diversity conservation and ecological education as well.
  2. Russian-Abkhazian children ecological forum “Two Countries – One Sea”. Children of two neighboring states – Russia and Abkhazia met discussing issues on ecology of Black Sea and its coastal zone.
  3. Birdwatching competition “Conservation Spring-2016”. Local school children were trained by experienced birders and professional ornithologists and then competed by teams in photo-birding.

Top three challenges

  1. Absence of visit-centre, where ecological education work can be carried out.
  2. Absence of scientific-popular guide “Birds of Imeretinskaya Lowland” analyzing current state of ornithofauna of the area, as well as photo-guide to birds of Imeretinskaya Lowland.
  3. It is impossible to find any private companies ready to sponsor ecological and educational actions in the city.
