On Friday the 12th May 2017, Diawling National Park celebrated World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) with schools from Ziré Sbeikhat and Ziré Taghrédient, both located on the edge of the park.  The day was celebrated by organisation of field trips for the students, to discover and explore the wetlands close by.  It was also an opportunity for the students to take part in bird watching sessions, and identify migratory birds which stopover or stay in the natural spaces of the Diawling Park.

During the field trip, the students learnt about the protection of different migratory bird species and about the migratory routes that they use.  This led to discussions about the importance of habitat protection for important species, as well for biodiversity in general.

This World Migratory Bird Day was also marked by sketches of the birds, poems and proverbs created by the children, around the themes  linked to bird conservation.  This included awareness-raising on the ban on hunting of birds and the taking of eggs from birds’ nests.
