We've been invited to field a team of bird watchers for the Global Big Day on 8th May. It is a special global bird-race on World Migratory Bird Day.

The team members can be far away from each other. As an international network, imagine how many different species WLI's team could see!

Global Birding is running the activity, in collaboration with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It uses the eBird website or app to record the sightings.

There is an optional element of fundraising to the activity. Donations will support BirdLife International's campaign to protect migrating birds.

The organisers are encouraging everyone to be extra safe and be responsible in their birding this year: follow local COVID regulations, as well as your usual practices for avoiding impacts on nature, and for staying safe.

So, if you would like to join Team WLI, please get in touch by email before 19 April and we will set up the team. So far we have members in the UK, Benin, and South Africa on the team.

Of course, everyone is free to join this activity, as an individual or in a team. You may wish to start teams with your wetland centre's supporters too. If you do, let us know and we will promote your efforts on the WLI website.
