Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird!

World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in May and October. The slogan for 2021 is 'Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird!'

If you are planning an activity, add it to the official events guide. Digital events count too!

In April you will be able to download official materials from

In the Western Hemisphere, Environment for the Americas is already producing rich content on Facebook, including webinars, live videos, and artwork.

Every year WLI members arrange activities called 'Birds and Schools'. These involve group video conferences between schools on the same flyway. After a visit to a wetland centre to learn about migratory birds, the class then goes online and shares their lessons with children sometimes in other countries.

In 2021, we will have to try different methods, to account for schools being shut, home-schooling, and restrictions to visiting wetland centres. We will launch an activities guidebook to the educational map for wetland centres in the East Atlantic Flyway.

Some WLI members are also planning to share audio live streams from their wetland for the day.

And WLI is fielding a team in the Global Birding Global Big Day, with WLI members from five countries sharing their bird-watching results on 8 May.

As always we are happy to promote WLI members' activities, so get in touch if you would like to share your plans on this website, Facebook, or Twitter.
