The youth environmental movement is embracing wetlands with a regional forum for the East Atlantic Flyway! Hosted by Youth Engaged in Wetlands, the Migratory Birds for People Programme, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat, and the International Wadden Sea School, under the theme “Taking off #ForNature from Africa to the Arctic”, the objective of the East Atlantic Flyway Youth Forum is to set the scene for coordinated youth engagement across the East Atlantic Flyway for increased intergenerational communication and cooperation for the conservation of wetlands and migratory waterbirds.
The COVID 19 Pandemic has pushed us to think differently about gatherings and to develop opportunities to connect virtually. The Forum is inspired by the success of the first ever Flyway Youth Forum developed by Youth Engaged in Wetlands and the East Asian Australasian Flyway Partnership last year using virtual tools. The organizers are keen to replicate and scale up the experience to the East Atlantic Flyway and its youth.
The East Atlantic Flyway Youth Forum seeks to connect young people (18-30 years old) from each country of the East Atlantic coast, a key route for waterbirds migrating between the Arctic and southern Africa. The Flyway Youth Forum (FYF) will provide a space for youth to learn, exchange and engage on key issues related to the conservation of wetlands and migratory waterbirds along this flyway.
Through four half days of exciting key-note speeches, inspiring presentations from youth and partners leading conservation actions across the flyway as well as a series of collaborative workshops and a Flyway World Café, participants will benefit from a unique opportunity to connect, exchange and develop actions in favour of the East Atlantic Flyway.
A special feature of this Flyway Youth Forum is also the Flyway Youth Ambassador Program which will be composed of 12 FYF Participants who will act as representatives of the Forum until September 2022. As spokespeople for the Flyway Youth, Flyway Youth Ambassador allows young people to take a leadership and representative role within the FYF community and access greater networking opportunities. Applications to become Ambassadors are part of the general application.
Take part in the Flyway Youth Forum and find more about it through the FYF website. flywayyouthforum.com and apply before August 31, 2021!
