World Wetlands Day

This year we opened the centre to the general public at the beginning of February to celebrate World Wetlands Day. On the weekend of 3 and 4 February, visits to Lake Grand- Lieu Centre were free and we welcomed 628 visitors. As we do every year, we coordinated activities to raise awareness of the wetlands around Lake Grand-Lieu. For 2024, 21 activities were proposed, including workshops, tours, boat trips, exhibitions, films and conferences for all ages.

The season is over!

High temperatures and rainfall in late winter and early spring have changed the landscape of Grand-Lieu. Some migratory birds arrived as early as the beginning of February, such as the Eurasian spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and the Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)! The waders are still finding it difficult to walk in front of the pavilion because the water levels are so high. The wildlife managers of the national nature reserve will work with all stakeholders around the lake, including Lake Grand-Lieu Centre, on a management plan to adapt to climate change from October 2024.
