MBP capacity building outline to 2030
Building capacity of our members is core to MBP. As a network of wetland visitor centres and educators, the capacity built should facilitate those activities.
Meetings
Traditionally MBP has held an in-person Annual Meeting which combined operational functions with experience exchanges in a host wetland visitor centre, in Europe. In 2022 we finally combined this meeting with capacity building workshops in Saloum, Senegal, requiring support of multiple local partners.
We will reduce the number of in-person meetings, to every second year. Our focus will be on creating capacity-building meetings in Atlantic Africa with funded participation, and smaller-scale themed meetings in Europe. We expect to hold the African events on either side of an external meeting such as the Pan-African Ornithological Congress, and the European events with digital interaction by video etc.
Training of Trainers
The network has access to trainers in West Africa. We will fundraise to support these trainers to develop and deliver training locally, and to fund participation. Approaches include examining the Erasmus+ centres of vocational excellence programme.
Online training
The network has capacity for diverse online training. The WWT Wetland Learning Hub provides pre-recorded lectures on a broad range of wetland topics, including but also going beyond the remit of MBP, and will have a regional version together with PRCM. We will consider using the platform for an MBP-specific course.
The East Atlantic Flyway Youth Forum is an annual, two-half-day training provision for people aged 18 to 35 in the flyway, and will continue.
MBP will continue to support online activities for school children to connect with peers in other parts of the flyway for World Migratory Bird Day.
