Guandu Nature Park: Star Wetland Centre 2022

In their own words
Guandu Nature Park is located in the capital of Taiwan, Taipei City, and is easily accessible via public transport, providing citizens of the city a great getaway, and place to explore nature. The Park being situated on the conjunction of Keelung and Tamsui River, the two major tributaries of Taipei City, receives nutrients from both rivers and is influenced by the tide given its proximity to the river mouth, nurturing a rich and biologically diverse habitat. The Park holds a variety of activities and programs to fit the needs of different groups, so everyone can find something that will interest them. The Park hosts two large scale, international events every year: Guandu International Nature Art Festival and Taipei International Birdwatching Fair. Both of these two events draw people to the Park every year, and because the themes for both events vary every year so there are always new things to look at and new experiences to be made.
The Park owns six water buffaloes that help with the management of growth of emergent macrophytes within the wetland, they also act as ambassadors and bring people closer to the wetland. The water bufalloes are also a reminder that the Guandu area was once all rice paddy fields and that they are an integral part of the wetland landscape here.

Guandu Nature Park already won a Star in 2022, and has now added two more, specifically for their Facilities and work with People.
The judges recognised their high standards while engaging corporate, school, and voluntary groups in habitat survey and management, and creating an environment where visitors can enjoy and learn about nature in the way that best suits them, no matter their age.
