Jiangxi Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve: Star Wetland Centre 2024

The Jiangsu Yancheng Wetland and Rare Birds National Nature Reserve, nestled along the Yellow Sea coast, is renowned for its unique radial sand ridges and intertidal wetlands. As a pivotal point on the East Asia-Australasia migratory route, it spans 247,260 hectares and stretches across 582 kilometers of coastline, making it China's largest and best-preserved tideland wetland reserve in the Western Pacific. The reserve is a sanctuary for endangered wetland fauna, particularly the red-crowned crane, and sustains the coastal ecosystems integral to their survival. Home to 1,855 animal species and 697 plant species, the reserve hosts hundreds of red-crowned cranes each winter and facilitates passage for millions of migratory birds, earning its status as a "national important wetland gene bank." The reserve has also become a center for nature education, creating educational materials and activities to engage the public, and has received recognition as a National Ecological Environment Science Popularization Base and other prestigious titles. Its efforts aim to enhance environmental education, nurture conservation professionals, and integrate conservation into society at large.
