Wadden Sea World Heritage – Understanding & Communicating
Many thanks to Anja Szczesinski of the International Wadden Sea School, who has shared these new resources.
The new tools presented in the series Wadden Sea World Heritage – Understanding & Communicating offer valuable support for conveying the unique features of the Wadden Sea during guided tours. Building on the video tutorials published last year, these new ideas provide practical approaches and inspiration for tour guides and educators to effectively communicate the site’s Outstanding Universal Value. By linking knowledge with engaging methods, they help strengthen awareness and appreciation of the Wadden Sea as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Underwater life in the Wadden Sea: Discover the hidden diversity
The new series Underwater Life in the Wadden Sea: Discover the Hidden Diversity provides 20 illustrated species profiles designed to support educators and guides in communicating the rich and often overlooked underwater biodiversity of the Wadden Sea. These species cards serve as a practical tool during aquarium visits or sea creature catching tours, helping to spark curiosity and provide clear, engaging explanations. Based on scientific information presented in an accessible format, they offer a strong foundation for raising awareness and appreciation of this fascinating part of the Wadden Sea ecosystem.
The new materials are available for download in English, German, Danish, and Dutch at https://iwss.org/resources.
A great thanks to everyone who contributed to the development of these educational tools. The creation of these resources was made possible through the outstanding support and collaboration within the IWSS network and external funding provided by Bingo-Lottery. In particular, I acknowledge the valuable input from the National Park Authority of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea, as well as the expert guidance provided by Schutzstation Wattenmeer and other dedicated partners. Thanks to their contributions, these new materials have the potential to enrich Wadden Sea education across the entire trilateral region.
