EVOA renaturalized, beetween2009-2012, an old pasture area into70ha of coastal lagoons, anendangered prioritary habitat(Directiva Habitats), used by thebirds as a tidal refuge area,nidification and moulting area (inthe case of pintail, also considereda priority species, and other ducks).
The inauguration was in decembre2012, nowadays we have sevenhides, 5 km of walking and electriccar paths.
At our centre we have investigation activities, with regular ringing activities of passerines and ducks. This year we finished an exotic species control project, including measures to encourage the otters'fixation to control exotic fishes andother natural solutions. We have aconsolidated environmentaleducation programme, withactivities online, at school and inthe natural reserve. In this last case, in small groups, with a ratio of 1guide per 15 students, allowing the approach to lagoons and wildfowlw ithout disturbance. We also encourage citizen science activities. We were involved in an Erasmus, creating an activity to monitor several chemical, physical and biological parameters associatted with wetlands. The relative abundance of micromammals are also followed analysing the pellets of the barn owls that live nearby. Finally we have a diverse offer of birdwatching activities, with private and group sessions or tours, following the tides or even by night (another citizen science activity, counting barn owls), workshop sand small events, including culture activities.
