Naturum Vattenriket

The naturum Vattenriket has served as a visitor centre to the wetlands and the Biosphere reserve since 2010, welcoming over a million visitors and becoming an iconic symbol of Kristianstad. The building, with free admission to its displays, auditorium and café, is located in wetlands close to the city of Kristianstad. The building is approx 1,000 square metres and constructed on pillars in the wetland lake that was restored in 2010 as part of the building project.

Inside interesting exhibits and aquarium appeal to a broad target group and give visitors a tempting glimpse of what awaits them in the nearby wetlands and the biosphere reserve. Well-trained nature interpreters are on hand to explain more, and to encourage visitors to experience the wetlands for themselves on one of the 21 visitor sites in the area.

Immediately outside the naturum a boardwalk leads through dense reeds to one of our six outdoor museums.
The public programme includes about 500 activities all year round with a great variety – from traditional nature rambles to boardwalk safaris, qigong, outdoor concerts and fun and games for all the family.
One important aspect of work at naturum Vattenriket is to welcome teachers and groups from pre-schoolers to university students. In the summer we arrange a Biosphere Camp for 10–14-year olds.
The visitor centre is run by Kristianstad Municipality in agreement with the Swedish EPA that is the owner of the naturum trademark.
