OCT Wetland Nature School

OCT Wetland, which located in the north of OCT Harbour, covering an area of about 685,000 square meters, with a water area of about 500,000 square meters. It forms a large-scale urban ecological ecosphere. It is also an important hub of bird migration. In2016, approved by China’s State, OCT Wetland has been the first National Wetpark of Shenzhen (Pilot) with the minimum area in China. The OCT Harbour has created a wetland management model of "Government-led, Corporate-managed, and Public-participated", implementing appointment entry, free opening, and managing in the way of nature reserves to provide the public with a public nature experience space. In the meantime, mix the concepts of “Zero Waste”, “Leave No Trace” and “Keep Nature Naturer” together, which makes the OCT Wetland Nature School has become a specific ecological icon in Shenzhen and a Nature Education Practice Model over the country. In 2021, the Wetland has become the “Important Wetland in Guangdong Province”.
Therefore, the OCT Wetland concerned and affirmed by the community. In August, 2011, it was awarded the first “National Coastal Wetland Rehabilitation Demonstration Project” of China by State Oceanic Administration of People’s Republic of China. In 2016, the wetland won the prize of “Livable Environment Model of China in 2016” by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of People’s Republic of China. In 2022, the wetland won the prize of “Model of Wetland Nature School” by WLI.
The judges loved
Social partnerships really good. Good re-use of existing infrastructure and repurposing. Good education resources and approach to education. As it’s a private housing development, it’s good to see this being priorities. Organised and engaging on and off site. Good bird walks and some interpretation materials.
