World Saltmarsh Day 11 June!
The second World Saltmarsh Day will be on 11 June, to spread the word about the superpowers of saltmarsh.
WWT, the wetland charity, launched the first World Saltmarsh Day last year and had an amazing level of support from partners in the UK and across the world. Our hope is that we can reach even more people and have even more partners posting in 2026, and we would love to have your support in making that possible.
This year the theme of World Saltmarsh Day is saltmarsh’s amazing biodiversity. Those who work on saltmarsh habitats are well aware of the variety and abundance of life that calls them home, the species that can exist nowhere else, and the many plants and animals that rely on saltmarsh for some part of their life cycle.
From the tiniest marine worm to the most spectacular flock of waders, saltmarshes support a huge abundance of biodiversity year-round, with many species relying on these wetlands for some part of their life cycle. Saltmarshes around the world provide food and shelter for everything from guinea pigs and snakes to terrapins and geckos, and we will be shining the spotlight on some of these species this year.
We highly encourage you to post your own favourite examples of the weird and wonderful creatures that make their homes on the world’s saltmarshes.
