Biesbosch National Park, approximately 10.000 hectare, freshwater tidal area, willow woods, haylands, creeks, reedbeds, rivers. The last 20 – 25 years a lot of arable land is transformed into wetlands and high water, floodplains. Since 2012 we have breeding white-tailed eagle, osprey, little white egret, spoonbill, Eurasian Bitterns, goshawk, cetti’s warbler. Since 1988 we have introduced the European beaver. At this moment we have some 300-350 beavers.
Work Areas
Main CEPA work area
Guided walks, boat trips, nature development, beaver project, we also run a school boat-programme, every fortnight writing nature columns in a local newspaper, excursions, keeping contacts with other stakeholders and entrepeneurs. We give on a quite regular basis interviews tot the press. Guiding from delegations from all over the world, who are particular interest in watermanagement, high water level reductions.
Top three successes
Acceptance for re-introduction European Beavers since 1988. Giving a lot of attention to nature development and succesfull breeding of big raptors like white tailed eagle and osprey.
Top three challenges
We are trying to get schoolkids into the Biesbosch NP, but in relation to the costs it is not an easy task.
