Work Areas
Main CEPA work area
-Communication on the importance of sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems. We highlight the relevance of mangroves on providing a variety of ecosystem services including coastal protection, biodiversity, fisheries, carbon sequestration, and ecotourism.
-We hold several education programs including elementary school and Telesecundaria. During these programs kids and youth learn about the importance of conserving mangroves for the planet and for society. College students often participate in mangrove monitoring and get trained on the Mexican Forest Protocol of Climate Action Reserve.
-We encourage participation of diverse actors including youth, women, and LGBTQ communities in our mangrove projects.
-Awareness-raising results from cultural events including the Mangrove Festival and the Coconut Festival.
Top three successes
- Ecotourism because is the number one source of income for the community.
- Establishment of a Sustainable Mangrove Management Unit (UMA) for management of mangroves and biodiversity. It helps monitoring the fauna and the mangrove.
- 3. The Blue Carbon Project, because since 2018 is a great source of income and support the achievement of sustainable development goals.
