Wetland management through CEPA activities

Description of the centre

The Wetland school is located within the Kolonnawa wetland which is a part of Colombo Ramsar City. The center is being constructed by the SLLDC with a financial and technical assistance from UNDP GEF Small Grant Project Operational Phase 7. The center is designed to conduct approximately 4 awareness programmes for school children and youth once per week on various subjects on wetland management, biodiversity and other environmental aspects and issues. Other than that, the center will be used for environmental related events such as Wetland Day, environment day etc.. The Center is managed by a management committee headed by the SLLDC who is mandated to manage wetlands in Sri Lanka.

Main CEPA work area

Conduct lectures, group events, environment monitoring activities, waste removals, invasive plant removal campaigns, competitions, specimen collections, photography, small video preparations, games development of social media groups, poster competitions, nature trails, bird watching, to name some activities
