Environmental education for children and young villagers of the community within the Santay wetland.

Description of the centre

The Santay wetland has 4200 ha between the island and the Guayas River as a zone of influence. The primary school and its Club EcologistaCES are located on the island and carry out activities within their school environmental calendar. The main ones are clean-up campaigns, collection of materials for recycling, tours in the wetland and the river, internal artistic activities such as theatre, dance, drawing, painting and collage competitions.

Work Areas

Main CEPA work area

We are currently setting up an educational programme to influence the participation of the whole community in awareness raising activities. The programme includes mainstream communication projects.

Top three successes

Photo exhibition on the history of the school
School area clean-up project
Cultural activities.
Success has been measured by the participation and interest of children and parents in participating.

Top three challenges

1.- That the Environmental Education programme is supported by the entire population of the community.

2.- To establish our own projects aimed at learning more about the wetland and protecting it.

3.- To establish relationships with other schools in wetlands.
