Overall aims of the centre

· Implementation of overall wetland conservation activities
· Research and monitoring in Gochang Tidal Flat
· Functioning as body of promoting Gochang Tidal Flat and visitors centre including exhibition
· Facilitating programs to enhance awareness on tidal flat conservation
· Coordinating for local community participatory projects and promoting ecotourism
· Branding “Tidal Flat” in general
· Building up a network (national and global)

Description of the centre

Location: Gochang county, Republic of Korea
Size of site: 64.66 km2
Types of habitats and species supported:
- Open tidal flat (Bay)
- Changes of sediments upon season are varied
- Variety of tidal flats: sand, mixed, and mud flats
Diversity of macro benthos: 255 species including three marine protected species(national).
Diversity of birds: waterfowl 90 species 18 including endangered species (Oystercatcher, Eastern Curlew, etc.)
Diversity of halophytes: 22 species including Suaeda japonica
