Overall aims of the centre

To promote the appreciation and wise of natural resources to achieve ‘one health’ – the health of the planet and ourselves. Through education and direct experience of the natural world.

Description of the centre

22 acres, estuarine canal saltwater marsh, freshwater marsh, reed beds, freshwater ponds, immature woodland, native hedgerows, meadows, brackish lagoon, organic vegetable garden & orchard. We run a variety of education programs for young children, second level students and adult. We also do walking and boat tours. These are a mix of curriculum-based classes, creative pursuits and workshops. Large amounts of signage, a sculpture trail and two bird hides and a 20m viewing tower. Peri-urban coastal site.

Ecology classes for students. Tree planting initiative. Social media interaction. Nature based craft workshops. Vocational environmental classes. Signage. Occasional articles in local newspapers and radio interviews. Pond digging and dipping.

Top three successes

Practical workshops in tree planting, pond digging, and willow sculpture work have proved very engaging because people seem to feel it is action in the face of crisis
