WLI Update June 2013
WLI North America
The WLI N America steering group has put together a programme for a workshop in late October at Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba, Canada titled ‘From education and engagement to positive action for conservation’ – we would invite you to save the date if you are interested. You can find more information here.
Migratory Birds for People
For the latest MBP newsletter, please see our website, full of information on what our partners are doing at their sites. The MBP group is holding its annual meeting at Lake Takern, Sweden, from the 29th to the 1st of October. We have a small amount of funding which means we can cover food and accommodation at the site, and you can download the provisional programme and registration form here. There is a low cost airline to Skavsta Airport, Stockholm which is nearby.
We also collated the results of a recent survey of wetland centre members, and showed that there is great enthusiasm to work with other wetland centre partners, share best practice and learn from each other. However, not surprisingly time and money are the restricting factors. See the newsletter for more details.
Chinese delegation visits WWT Slimbridge
In late June WWT Slimbridge, UK, received a delegation of visitors from China, including the Government Ramsar CEPA focal point. The visitors were shown around the site, and had updates about projects that WWT is running, including visitor centre management and running the WLI network. They also met with the CEO Mr Martin Spray. It was agreed that WLI should have a higher profile in China, and that the next WLI Asia meeting would be welcomed by the government. We are working with partners to progress this.
