Ramsar CEPA panel at London Wetland Centre

The Ramsar CEPA (Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness) oversight panel met at the London Wetland Centre from the 3rd to the 5th of December, to discuss Ramsar’s next 6 year plan for CEPA across the convention.  In addition to the regular panel members, the new Secretary General of Ramsar, Dr Chris Briggs, attended and had a very positive input to the discussions.

Key outcomes were that:

  • Elements of previously separate resolutions on participation will be incorporated into the CEPA action plan
  • The resolution will be simplified to make it more accessible, including annexes with definitions, and moving the ‘technical’ introduction to the back.
  • Ensuring that outputs are SMART – and removing those that are not achievable.
  • Finding a new name for CEPA! This acronym is not recognised by  many people, so we will find a new title that is easier for most people ot understand.

Once some more work has been done on finalising the draft resolution, we will be back in touch with the headline points.
