Ramsar COP12 results

The 12th Ramsar Conference took place from the 2nd to the 9th of June, and gave WWT the opportunity to become the 6th IOP (International Organisation Partner) as well as adopting an updated CEPA resolution, which includes several commitments to using wetland centres as a means to raising awareness of wetlands. The Strategic Plan also contains an indicator on the number of countries with an active government and NGO CEPA focal point – if you don’t know who yours is, please check here! Updated Ramsar documents will be available soon.

North America Wetlands Month

Working with ASWM (Association of State Wetland Managers) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) we held a webinar on the relevance of Ramsar in North America, including the US and Canada. The Head of WLI talked about wetland centres and their networks, see link, and Nathalie Bays spoke about the Oak Hammock Marsh centre, see link.

World Environment Day

Thanks for the very entertaining video on World Environment Day, produced by the Point-à-Pierre wetland centre – showing results of their celebrations to engage local volunteers and bring local school children to their site. This included making a pledge to be more sustainable, and a poetry competition.

WLI Asia meeting: date/venue change!

Asian colleagues – please be aware that the 5th WLI Asia will now be taking place in Thailand, from the 24th to the 28th of August, in Bangkok, Thailand. We welcome registrations for the event, which will bring together wetland centre colleagues from across the region. Please contact Mr Suh Seung-oh from the Ramsar Regional Centre East Asia for more information.
