The “Ospreys flyways linking communities” environmental education project has been organised in Urdaibai Bird Center for the second year in succession in collaboration with the Basque Government and the Provincial Administration of Bizkaia.

This environmental education project about Ospreys allows students from different parts of the Basque Country and other countries share an educational experience as well as considering in greater depth the life of this interesting bird.

Using the osprey as a tool, and thanks to the continuous sharing of experiences between the participating schools, the students get to know other social, linguistic, educational and scientific realities.

Some of the activities undertaken within the framework of the project can be seen in its official website and the publications in

the Urdaibai Bird Center webpage.  In the frame of this ambitious project, special guided visits are been carried out in Urdaibai Bird Center during October. The content of the visits is focused on the biology and migratory habits of the Osprey, as well as in the way of joining the “Ospreys flyways linking communities” project.

This international initiative is having a great success and a consolidated network has already been built with Scotland, where this emblematic species nests, to Senegal, where it can be seen wintering.  More and more schools along the Ospreys flyway around the world are expected to join the project in the next years, increasing the impact of the “Ospreys flyway linking communities”.
