Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) has been observing Mangrove Action Day each year since 2009 in Odisha, India. They have produced their normal annual report outlining the great work they are doing, click here for more. We are all very happy that UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has recognised the importance of mangroves, marking the 26th July, 2016 as the first International Mangrove Action Day. APOWA would like to express its appreciation of the efforts and continuous lobby of MAP (Mangrove Action Project), USA as the international community marks the first ever International Day for Mangroves. We have also been encouraged by MAP for celebrating the day since 2009.
