Description of your centre

The centre is located in “Les Salines de la Tancada”, a site of 41,24ha owned by Fundació CatalunyaCaixa, near la Tancada lagoon and the Alfacs Bay in the Ebro Delta. Habitats present include the “sosar” (1420 in the Habitats Directive) and species like the fartet (Aphanius iberus) and the Limonium.

Work Areas

Types of CEPA work

The centre includes information on birds species presently in the site, a small salt production area, an exhibit on the year-round change of the landscapes in the Delta, information about the delta’s geomorphology, information on the LIFE projecte Delta Lagoon, and about the endemic fish species fartet (Aphanius iberus), traditional fishing techniques, etc.

Also includes a lookout with telescopes and a range of environmental education activities for schools, adapted to age and different thematics.

Which activities / projects have worked well, and why?

We have just opened the centre a few months ago. So far, the restoration of the marshes it’s been a great success as we already have seen nesting pairs of several bird species like Pied avocets (Recurvirostra avocetta), Little terns (Sternula albifrons) and Kentish plovers (Charadrius alexandrinus) in the restored area.

Also the presence of around 10 Caspian Terns (Hydroprogne caspia) is also a good sign.
