Overall aims of the centre

Based on scientific conservation and public education, we integrate social resources and work on providing better habitats for migrating birds and native wildlife, and attract public focuses, supports and participation on wetland conservation actions, making Shenzhen Bay wetlands a demonstration site of globe influence.

Description of the centre

Based on scientific conservation and public education, we integrate social resources and work on providing better habitats for migrating birds and native wildlife, and attract public focuses, supports and participation on wetland conservation actions, making Shenzhen Bay wetlands a demonstration site of globe influence.

Location:
It’s at the estuary of Shenzhen River and Xinzhou River, on northeast of Shenzhen Bay, and also the buffer zone for Futian Mangrove National Nature Reserve and Maipo Nature Reserve.
Size of site: 38 hm2
Types of habitats and species supported:
Wetland park, supporting migrating birds and native wildlife. Such as Black-faced Spoonbill (Platalea minor) , Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) and leopard cat (Prionalurus bengalensis).
Featured programs:
1. three-hour environmental education activities for students during school day (about mangrove, birds, etc.)
2. ecological monitoring for adult volunteers (about Leopard Cat, birds, and invasive plants, etc.)
3. citizen science activities for students, adult volunteers, and donors (about invasive plants)
4. conservation action for volunteers and donors (about invasive plants, migrating birds, clean the mangrove mudflat)
5. guided tour for publics (in the XIX International Botanic Congress Memorial Park, about mangrove conservation, invasive plants, etc.)
