About
Natuurpunt has nearly 30,000 ha of nature reserves in Flanders. 130,000 families are members and the reserves are supported by thousands of volunteers.
Funding support: Natuurpunt is subsidised by the Flemish government and by several local authorities. In addition there is the membership fee and sponsorship.
Overall aims of the centre
Natuurpunt aims for more natural areas, for a better quality of the natural environment, for opportunities for everyone to enjoy nature and for better policies to protect the natural environment.
Description of the centre
Natuurpunt is a 30,000 ha nature reserve in Flanders. 130,000families are members and the nearly 500 small reserves are supported by thousands of volunteers.
Work Areas
Main CEPA work areas
Creating nature trails, building hides and boardwalks, providing site information, guidebook hiking and biking, organising nature happenings, guided walks, education activities for schools; nature store with lots of books, nestboxes and education material.
Top three successes
Creating a strong volunteer organisation; land acquisition as a policy to protect nature – the biggest single land acquisition to date was 600 ha; growing membership by 9% a year.
