World Wetlands Day 2019 was celebrated by the Baragangina Resource Management Organization (RMO), a community-based organization responsible for sustainable management of Baikka Beel permanent wetland sanctuary situated in Hail Haor in Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh.

Events included a rally, discussion on the importance, functions and services of wetlands, and an art competition on the biodiversity of the wetlands among the students (VI – X grades) of a local high school.

Around 300 individuals (school students, teachers, community people, local government representatives) participated in the occasion. At the events the RMO announced that it will recruit at least 10 students (boys and girls) as volunteers for the sanctuary, and will arrange visits to Baikka Beel for all the students by rotation. The chairman of the local council has also committed to provide a solar power system for the wetland visitor center.

The event was supported by the Center for Natural Resource Studies a pro-environment NGO which dreams that people and nature live in harmony in a world free from exploitation and exclusion.
